We are several neighbors who have power poles on our properties. We were informed by PGE no earlier than late May 2023 that they intend to run a 115 kV transmission line from the Rosemont substation to the new substation in Tonquin, via Stafford Road. This represents over 10x expansion of the current electrical capacity. The new poles will be 100 feet tall or taller, replacing the current 40 foot poles. Many trees will have to be removed or topped, including those that are home to fragile species. We are also very concerned about fire safety in the area with the addition of so much power.
We first met as a neighborhood group on August 2, 2023, and the consensus was that we would seek any possible alternative for this project. We have since hired a lawyer, Greg Hathaway, and have sought professional information on fire hazards, condemnation costs (in John's case, a whopping 57x what PGE offered him), and legal and political channels that PGE must follow and hasn't been. We have presented to the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners (March 14, 2024) and have won a first delay of the project. Continue to check in on the latest news here.
